OUR STORY

Michael Parham & Adrienne Taylor-Parham grew up in Richmond and joined the Marine Corps without ever crossing paths. The two USMC "Devildogs" finally met in 1993, and it didn't take long for them to realize that they were both passionate about BBQ. The only problem was they couldn't find a spot that completely satisfied them. So, they embarked on a journey to create a "Great BBQ" experience where folks can come together, meet new friends, share stories, smile, enjoy amazing food, and make lasting memories! 

Adrienne originally developed an affinity for food during her 14+ years in the Marines while running a dining hall, planning fundraisers, and the annual Marine Corps Ball. For over two decades, she has used the freshest, highest-quality ingredients to perfect her dry rubs, sauces, sides, and desserts, which now complement River City BBQ's mouthwatering authentic smoked meats. 

Mike has been cooking on grills and smokers since childhood with his late father, Raleigh, and cousin, Boret Rose. Growing up, they hosted family reunions and other events. After eight years in the Marines, Mike continued to experiment with smokers. Over the past decade, he got serious, owned "The Pit," and fine-tuned his techniques to produce the best combination of wood, fire, and smoke to create slow-cooked, lip-smacking beef, chicken, turkey, pork, lamb, duck, salmon, and other favorites that keep you coming back to see us and craving for more. 

After getting married in 1999, Mike and Adrienne continued to spread their passion for "Great BBQ" with friends and neighbors at family functions and community events. Many urged them to stop keeping this good thing a secret and open up a restaurant. In 2022, they decided to take their show on the road and invested in two commercial smokers with a cooking capacity of over 1,000 pounds of meat per smoke.

Well, the Wait is Over, RVA! In 2023 and beyond, River City BBQ will serve you some of the most delicious authentic smoked meats on the planet that will excite your taste buds and have you dancing with anticipation as they prepare your food! See you all real soon.
